Meet Team Crayon: Ludwig Wendzich
Here we profile the people who lend their expertise and experience to Team Crayon, enabling us to help employers provide financial care to their team members in the moments that matter.
Meet Ludwig, who leads Crayon’s effort to scale our offering. Ludwig brings a keen design eye, thoughtful product leadership and genuine enthusiasm for delivering financial wellbeing in a way that resonates with people across the board.
What does your typical week at Crayon look like?
As I’m on primary caregiver leave from my day job, I’ve been able to spend a bit more time practically helping out Crayon. Moving from advice, to being on the tools, has been so enjoyable—especially with the awesome Crayon team. I do have at least one little one to take care of on a given day (some days we have two at home!), which means Crayon contributions are intermittent and fit in around the kids’ schedule. If I’m honest, I thought I’d have more time to help out than I actually do! What I work on: art directing illustrations, doing a website redesign, outlining product strategy and designing prototypes.
What was the most financially stressful event you’ve experienced so far?
Making the decision to be the primary caregiver for my second daughter. Even though I had the support of Crayon’s Financial Baby Prep Program to help model out what would happen, and help prepare financially for this year, it still felt (and feels!) like a big leap. Giving up “financial” and “job” security is a big deal and I have such huge respect for the majority mums who are mostly asked to carry this burden in our society.
What does financial wellbeing mean to you?
For my family, financial wellbeing means not having to think about or worry about tomorrow. For us, that means ensuring that we have margin, absolutely living well below the ceiling that our incomes provide, so we don’t need to worry about bumping into it.
What are your top 2 values (in the Financial Baby Prep Program we always ask people to share these, because it helps us understand what’s important to them!)
We chose “Simplicity” (in living) and “Compassion” (living outward) as our two values. We believe these values help to maintain margin in our lives.
What’s your favourite part of the Financial Baby Prep Program?
The clarity you get from seeing your financial state laid out in front of you, then modelling the impacts of various decisions that empowers you to make informed decisions. Without that, we certainly wouldn’t even have thought it would be possible for me to take primary caregiver leave!
When did you start working with Crayon and how did you get on board?
I started working with Crayon a couple of years ago as an advisor to Steph. We’d been mostly focused on finding product market fit, and a business model, without needing to build anything because that’s expensive. The stars aligned and our time to build and my parental leave lined up, so I could be more involved at just the right time!
What’s your favourite thing about working with Crayon?
I love that everyone I talk to loves Crayon, and that’s because Steph is magic. Companies are infused with a culture that reflects their founder, and Crayon is no different. Crayon is so empathetic and human, extremely thoughtful, totally dedicated and on a mission to help people!
